About Dr. O'Brien

Ciaran is a vascular surgery fellow at the University of Pennsylvania with plans to pursue a career in academic vascular surgery focusing on comprehensive vascular care and resident education.

Prior to fellowship he completed general surgery residency at Penn. During residency he spent 2 years doing research in the lab of Dr. Matthew Levine on the influence of estrogen and HDAC inhibitors on ischemia reperfusion injury in mouse models of liver, kidney and extremity ischemia.

Prior to residency he attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, a post bacc program at Bryn Mawr College, and a BA in philosophy/comparative literature at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland.
