Reflecting on our departmental anniversary in 2024—filled with enlightening discussions, presentations, and departmental reunions—we would like to extend my deepest gratitude to each of you who attended and contributed to our annual events’ success.

This year, we had the distinct honor of welcoming distinguished keynote speakers Shahzad I. Mian, MD, who delivered the 18th David M. Kozart Memorial Lecture entitled "The Evolving Role of Endothelial Keratoplasty,” and Jacque L. Duncan, MD, who delivered the 10th Annual Honored Alumni Lecture and the 3rd Alan M. Laties, MD Memorial Lectureship entitled “Visual Acuity in Enhanced S Cone Syndrome.”

Each of the presentations delivered by our own faculty and fellows, along with those by visiting speakers, are now available online for future reference alongside photo albums capturing each day of the event.

These occasions celebrated our Department’s collective milestones and accomplishments—epitomizing the collaborative discovery happening every day at Scheie. The Anniversary Dinner at the Rittenhouse was a picturesque celebration of the collective dedication that continues to propel our department. It was a pleasure to see many alumni and to share in the camaraderie present at each of our gatherings. We were also honored to host three former chairs of the Department—bridging Scheie’s history with the innovative strides we continue to make.

Thank you once again for your support and dedication. Particularly during our Anniversary events, it is apparent that our community is a dynamic forum for innovation, a family of brilliant minds, and a standard of progress in the medical community. We look forward to celebrating with you many more years of innovation, collaboration, and excellence in the field of ophthalmology—shaping the future of ophthalmic research, education, and patient care starting at Scheie.
