Medical students can elect to do a two to four week rotation in one of Penn’s critical care units. Students must have completed their medicine sub-internship prior to taking a critical care rotation. The critical care rotations provide students with the opportunity to assume an intern role caring for two to three critically ill patients. Students continue to hone history and physical exam skills, differential diagnosis and clinical reasoning skills, and patient management skills. Students gain experience with procedures, ventilator management, and advanced communication skills. Students play an active role in an inter-professional team.
