About Shawn Ma, MD

Growing up in both northern and southern California, Shawn ventured about as far as possible from home to attend Cornell University where he studied biology.

Shawn stuck around on the East Coast for medical school here at Penn. Through the well-rounded medical education at Perelman, he discovered his interest at the intersection of business, innovation, and medicine. He served as VP and then co-president of HealthX, the student group focused on healthcare entrepreneurship and innovation. During his 4th year of medical school, he also co-lead a consulting team in a collaboration with Wharton and Clover Health.

The culture of innovation and problem-solving in DR and IR drew him to stay at Penn as an integrated IR/DR resident, where he is a member of the BAIR (Business and Innovation of Radiology) track. Outside of work, he spends his time informally consulting for healthcare start-ups, playing or watching basketball or working out.
