The Scheie Eye Institute welcomes Danielle N. Sarlo, DO, to our community. With a passion for pediatric ophthalmology and a dual commitment to patient care and medical education. Dr. Sarlo has dedicated her career to advancing the field and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals. Dr. Sarlo's educational and professional medical journey has also taken her across several parts of the United States, contributing a geographically-rich medical perspective. Dr. Danielle Sarlo attended medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, completing her residency in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Sarlo's subsequent fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia afforded her extensive experience in pediatric ophthalmology—including complex surgical interventions to treat such diseases as strabismus and retinopathy of prematurity. Following her fellowship, Dr. Sarlo practiced at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, for one year prior to returning to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to join none other than the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Sarlo shares of this return, "It was an honor to be able to join my mentors at CHOP and become an integral part of the Department." Moving back to CHOP also provided Dr. Sarlo the opportunity to relocate to New Jersey, where she was raised—making it a doubly meaningful homecoming. Dr. Sarlo brings to the Department of Ophthalmology a particular interest in retinopathy of prematurity, cataracts, and strabismus surgery in children.

On her passion for education, Dr. Sarlo reflects that she "[. . . ] enjoy[s] the opportunity to teach medical students, residents, and fellows [to] impart [her] enthusiasm for pediatric ophthalmology and the joy of caring for children." Outside of medicine, Dr. Sarlo enjoys traveling, exercising, attending Eagles games, and spending time with her two rescue dogs, Sammy and Charlie.
