The Scheie Eye Institute welcomes Mary Gerges, OD, a full-scope optometrist who brings numerous years of expertise in Optometry to the Scheie Eye Institute. Dr. Gerges is originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where she completed her undergraduate studies at Simon Fraser University.

Moving to Pennsylvania, Dr. Gerges continued her educational journey at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, receiving a Doctorate in Optometry. She received honors for clinical excellence during her 2nd and 3rd year clinic at the Eye Institute, received clinical performance honors during her final six-month rotation at the Wilmington VA, and successfully completed the Advanced Specialty Pediatric Program in her 4th year with clinical excellence and honors during her pediatric rotation at the Eye Institute. She also received pediatric specialty training during her four years at PCO and received clinical honors in this specialty. Dr. Gerges is nationally board-certified in the treatment and management of ocular diseases.

Dr. Gerges practices comprehensive optometry, with experience in the detection of a variety of conditions including macular degeneration, glaucoma, dry eye disease, and other systemically derived ocular diseases related to hypertension and diabetes. Since her early experience in optometry, Dr. Gerges has studied and treated a diverse range of populations including geriatric patients in Thorndale, PA, and Wilmington, DE, as well as pediatric patients in Philadelphia, PA.

In her practice, Dr. Gerges specializes in complete family eye care, comprehensive eye examinations, and routine vision examinations, as well as therapeutic interventions for dry eye, pink eye, and eye allergies. She has also conducted follow-ups with recovering patients post-Lasik, Visian ICL, and cataract extraction. Dr. Gerges' practice integrates advanced diagnostic techniques including usage of OCT, HVF, and retinal photography to enhance diagnostic and treatment effectiveness.

Dr. Gerges joined UPHS and our community in September 2022, after many years of serving the communities of Willow Grove, Plymouth Meeting, and Lehigh Valley. In her spare time, Dr. Gerges enjoys hiking, playing tennis, skiing and enjoys spending time with her family.
