The Scheie Eye Institute is pleased to welcome Parveen K. Nagra, MD, who joined in August 2023 as an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology. Dr. Nagra practices at both the Scheie Eye Institute at PPMC in Philadelphia and the Scheie Eye Institute in Newtown, PA. Dr. Nagra completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and received her M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School. During medical school, she was inspired to train in ophthalmology when she witnessed firsthand the instrumental nature of restoring and maintaining vision to patients' overall quality of life and health. With a piqued interest and passion for ophthalmology, Dr. Nagra explains that the field "[. . . ] seemed to be the perfect balance of surgery and outpatient care." Years later, she can confirm her initial vision of pursuing this field. "We get to know our patients well during our office visits, making it especially rewarding to greatly improve their vision"—for instance, by removing their cataracts or performing a corneal transplant—and subsequently, "[their] quality of life."
Dr. Nagra completed her residency in Ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital, where she was chosen to serve as Chief Resident in her final year. She then remained at Wills Eye Hospital to complete her fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases. After practicing in Kentucky for some years, Dr. Nagra returned to Philadelphia to practice subspecialty care in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery. There, she was involved in training residents and fellows at Wills Eye Hospital while developing a busy private practice in Newtown, PA.
Dr. Nagra is excited to be part of the Scheie family, sharing, "I have been very impressed with the excellent caliber of residents, as well as the very welcoming, dedicated, and supportive faculty." Dr. Nagra also mentions that she enjoys working with the Scheie residents, looks forward to helping train the inaugural cornea fellow, and strives to continue to deliver high-quality, advanced cataract and cornea subspecialty care. Dr. Nagra lives in Bucks County with her husband, Dr. Bipin Nagra—a cardiologist at Penn Medicine Princeton—and their three children.
