The Scheie Eye Institute is pleased to welcome Yan Zhu, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Joan O'Brien's lab. Dr. Zhu is an expert in computer science and artificial intelligence with a focus on healthcare applications, particularly in ophthalmology.

Dr. Zhu earned her doctoral degree from the University of Toledo, specializing in computer-aided drug design, and a master's degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently involved in the Primary Open-Angle African American Glaucoma Genetics (POAAGG) study, where she applies advanced computational techniques to understand and predict glaucoma outcomes.

Dr. Zhu was drawn to the Scheie Eye Institute by its reputation for excellence and collaborative environment. She is inspired by the institute's commitment to advancing ophthalmic research and patient care. Her long-term goal is to develop AI technologies that improve diagnostic and treatment processes, ultimately helping individuals lead healthier lives.
