DEI group

At Pennsylvania Hospital, and particularly in the Residency Program, we believe that diversity enriches the educational experience and builds stronger medical professionals who can best meet our patients’ needs. Additionally, physicians are often seen as leaders in the community, and building a future of diverse leaders is paramount. We take a broad view of diversity, and believe that a person’s background, experience, race, gender, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression all contribute value to our teams and perspectives. We look forward to recruiting a diverse intern class as we continue to push for improved representation, inclusion, and equity.

Information about Penn Medicine’s diversity initiatives can be found on our Office of ID&E website. Additionally, if you have identified yourself in your ERAS application as someone from an underrepresented minority in medicine, and you are invited to interview, you will also receive an invitation to join our health system’s residency recruitment ID&E information sessions.

DEI group eating a mealOur commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is reflected in the creation of the inaugural resident run Pennsy IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Advocacy) group. A space designed to create a community that celebrates the uniqueness and individuality every background brings while promoting health equity for our patients with a lens of diversity and equity. This year, we honored our residents who were observing Ramadan by hosting an Iftar dinner for all residents which turned into a wonderful sharing of cultures and experiences from different religious backgrounds. Upcoming events include an international food fair to celebrate the cuisine of our diverse residency community and a health fair to provide education and resources to our underserved patients.

We look forward to recruiting a diverse intern class as we continue to push for improved representation, inclusion, and equity. We aim to develop and support a group of physicians that truly reflect the different populations we serve in the Pennsylvania Hospital community and beyond.
