Pennsylvania Hospital General Internal Medicine residency tracks.
Healthcare Leadership in Quality Track
In the fall of the PGY1 year, our interns have the opportunity to apply for our health system-wide Healthcare Leadership in Quality Track. The track is a two-year leadership development program that provides residents with hands-on learning in healthcare quality, patient safety, and informatics. The program includes an intensive 2-week curriculum paired with a longitudinal project with mentorship, and gives residents the opportunity to network with leaders across the health system. Residents receive a certificate from Penn Medicine upon successful completion of the program.
Global Health
The Pennsylvania Hospital Global Health track is a training pathway for residents with an interest in Global Health and Humanitarian Medicine. Residents will be eligible to apply for the track during their PGY1 year and, if accepted, will have the opportunity to participate in supplemental educational opportunities focused on clinical practice and capacity building in low resource settings. Specifically, residents in the track will use their longitudinal Y-block rotations through residency to work in clinical spaces such as Puentes de Salud (a local clinic for undocumented immigrants), the Refugee Clinic at the Penn Center for Primary Care, and the Latina Clinic for uninsured patients at the Ludmir Center for Women's Health. Outside of clinical care, track members will complete a dedicated Global Health elective at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, an elective in POCUS, and a Global Health weekend bootcamp through the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Track members may also have the opportunity to experience global health in action through Penn affiliations with hospitals in Botswana and the Indian Health Service.
