Workshop Information

  • Trauma Care at Penn Orientation: 
    • The Trauma Care at Penn Orientation workshop provides an introductory overview of the trauma program for inter-professional and multi-disciplinary team members involved in the care of trauma patients at PPMC. Registered Nurses who completed the Trauma Nurse Course (TNC) prior to employment at Penn Medicine can attend this workshop to fulfill their TNC requirement at PPMC. This should be completed within 1 year of the date of hire at PPMC. Attendees will receive a certificate for 1.5 trauma hours upon completion of a post-workshop survey. This event will be hosted online, on Microsoft Teams. The Microsoft Teams link will be sent by e-mail to all registrants prior to the event. Please use your Penn Medicine e-mail address to register. This workshop is currently only available to Penn Medicine employees.

  • S.E.W. (Suturing Education Workshop): 
    • Designed to educate residents, fellows and advanced practitioners about basic suturing techniques, materials, and surgical needles. The workshop offers hands-on suturing practice with guidance from Penn Trauma providers.
  • Ultrasound/ECHO Workshop: 
    • Designed to educate residents, fellows and advanced practitioners on the use of ultrasound FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma) exams and echocardiograms. A series of lectures are followed by practicum sessions with live models, allowing the student to learn and practice in a small group setting with individual instruction.
  • R.E.A.D. (Radiologic Education Analysis and Discussion) Workshop: 
    • Pairs the audience with Penn Department of Radiology clinical experts to learn how to read and interpret radiologic scans in abdominal, cardiac, thoracic or neurologic trauma cases.
  • Second Trauma Workshop: 
    • Teaches providers how to better relate, understand and respond to stressed trauma families when traumatic injury or death occurs. Emphasizing the need for open communication, listening skills, using clear, precise language and reading visual and verbal cues, the workshop explores the struggle of families as well as the stress on the interacting staff.
