More About Dr. Band

Roger A. Band, MD graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in microbiology and chemistry (minor), and completed a pre-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) before earning a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College (Sidney Kimmel Medical College). Dr. Band completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and then served nearly a decade on the Penn faculty. While at Penn, Dr. Band held numerous institutional committee roles and was awarded a Penn Pearls award honor for excellence in teaching. Additionally, Dr. Band is the author of many peer-reviewed papers on pre-hospital emergency care and served as a reviewer for several trauma- and emergency medicine-related journals.

With an established expertise in pre-hospital care and new models of acute care delivery, Dr. Band subsequently assumed a role at Jefferson Health where he became a full Professor of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Band served as Vice Chair, Quality Assurance in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Jefferson, was Enterprise Medical Director for Jefferson Urgent Care and a co-founder of the enterprise-wide telehealth portfolio. Dr. Band recently returned to the University of Pennsylvania, assuming a Health System wide leadership role on the business development team and a faculty appointment as a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine.

Additionally, Dr. Band served as the traveling physician to former President William J. Clinton and as Medical Director for developing world travel for the Clinton Foundation for nearly 14 years. During this time, he was responsible for overseeing large and small-scale special events, the medical care of President Clinton, traveling staff and a host of dignitaries. Furthermore, he was responsible for all medical security preparation and medical contingency planning in coordination with the United States Secret Service (USSS) and served as medical liaison to the William J. Clinton detail of the USSS. Dr. Band also served as one of the team Emergency Physicians for the Philadelphia Flyers, professional ice hockey team for over 6 years and currently serves as medical advisor for the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Foundation, providing medical travel support around the world.

Dr. Band resides in Center City Philadelphia with his wife Dana and his two sons. He loves spending time outdoors and enjoys taking time to hike, mountain bike, scuba dive and surf.
