The clerkship didactic curriculum is designed to align clinical learning in Obstetrics and Gynecology with the preclinical Reproduction pathophysiology course, using a flipped classroom approach that combines virtual learning resources and weekly small group Team Based Learning (TBL) sessions. The goal of TBL is to use significant, “real-life” problems to illustrate core concepts in physiology and clinical management.
Students are required to watch a series of short instructional videos to ensure that they enter each TBL session with a standardized knowledge base. Preparatory video resources are housed on Canvas. TBL sessions are proctored by a group of core teaching faculty and are structured as follows:
- Individual readiness assurance test (IRAT) on preparatory material
- Group readiness assurance test (GRAT) and review of preparatory material
- Case based group application exercise utilizing the “four S’s”: significant problem, same problem, specific choice, and simultaneous reporting
Attendance at all TBL sessions is mandatory. Topics include:
